01.17.06 (update from
foster home) Soldier is doing well. Dr.
Wolfe said the lacerations on his legs are wire cuts
and the leg swelling will go down with the wounds
healing. He did a lameness test exam and palpitated
his legs and checked at four hooves. He said he
doesn't have a lameness issue. Because most people
don't want to be bother with a horse (especially one
so young) that may have ringbone, you may want to
have him x-rayed....just a suggestion...may help him
get adopted. Soldier has a grapefruit size lump in
his neck that was caused by a fight...it will heal
with time. Dr. Wolfe is having John gradually
increase his pelleted feed over time to get some
weight on him. Dr. Wolfe estimated he'll need about
14 pounds of pelleted feed per day to gain weight.
I am also giving him a multi-vitamin (one that I
give my horses). I will de-worm him tomorrow so
he'll be on the same schedule as my other
horses.Soldier has wonderful ground manners. He
prefers to be handled in a quiet, calm environment
(not a kid's horse) and is very trusting. If he's
still here after he has gained weight, I'll start
going through the John Lyon's Ground Control
training with him.
